Babe Ruth Birthplace and Museum – Baltimore

No true baseball fan can visit Maryland and not stop at the Babe Ruth Birthplace and Museum in Baltimore! This athlete-lover’s paradise is truly a once in a lifetime experience. It all began in 1895 with the birth of George Herman "Babe" Ruth.

The place of Babe’s birth was set for demolition in the 1960s before a successful campaign saved and restored it. Babe’s widow Clair and his two daughters helped design the exhibits seen today at the Historic House. In 1983, the whole site was expanded to become the official museum of the Baltimore Orioles. They are the team that first signed Babe as a professional ball player. Attendance to the museum has sky-rocketed to over 60,000 a year with many baseball fans making the pilgrimage a yearly event. Today the site is a tribute not only to Babe Ruth, but to many other Oriole and Colt players.

Six great exhibits make up the Babe Ruth Birthplace and Museum. The "500 Home Run Club" features the elite members of the club. The "Babe Batted Here" exhibition features Babe’s glove and his jersey. It showcases how Babe ended up learning the game. "Babe: Husband, Father, Friend" highlights what a special person the baseball player was to his friends and family. It shows off the amazing relationships he built while he was still alive. "Playing the Babe" features all the actors that have played The Bambino in movies and on television. The "Historic House" shows off the very room where Babe was born. See where he lived out his earliest days and his childhood. Some of furnishings are those from the actual time period when Babe resided in the home. The final exhibition is entitled the "Ruthian Record" and shows off this baseball player’s amazing career. It shows off his records and displays some of his most precious baseball memorabilia.

Babe’s birthplace is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily between November and March.
