The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore has Plenty to See. The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore, formerly called the Baltimore Zoo, is located in Druid Hill Park in Baltimore, Maryland. The zoo opened in 1876, and is considered the third oldest zoological park in the United States.

The zoo has several different parts, including the African Journey, the Maryland Wilderness featuring the Children’s Zoo, and the Polar Bear Watch. Each of these is home to many different animals, including many favorites.

The African Journey

This is the largest area of the zoo, and it has a great variety of animals for people to see. The area is broken into several sections, including the African Watering Hole, African Aviary, Chimpanzee Forest, and Rock Island. Some of the most popular are the elephant, leopard, lion, and cheetah. You can also see warthogs, vultures, giraffes, and more.

The kids might even like to take a ride on one of the camels for a rather unique experience. You can also check out the giraffe feeding station and hand feed some of the largest animals in the world.

The Polar Bear Watch

The Polar Bear Watch features a number of animals besides just the famous polar bears Magnet and Alaska. You can also see arctic foxes, snowy owls, and ravens. The bears are certainly one of the zoo’s biggest attractions.

The Maryland Wilderness Featuring the Children’s Zoo

This area of the zoo features animals that are native to the state of Maryland. Visitors will be able to visit The Bog and see the bog turtle, the Marsh Aviary and Lilly Pads, where you can see a variety of ducks and other local birds. At The Stream, you will find otters, red fox, and more. You can also visit The Cave, the Giant Tree and Slide, the Meadow, and the Farmyard, where the little ones can get up close to some friendly barnyard animals.

If you get tired of walking, you can catch one of the free Zoo Trams that will take you around the park to get you closer to your favorite animals much quicker. It gives you a different view of the park and it can sure beat walking on those hot days!

The Maryland Zoo is open daily from 10AM to 4PM. General admission to the zoo Monday through Friday is $11 for adults, $9 for children, and $10 for seniors.
