Things to do on St. Clement's Island in Coltons Point, Maryland. Located in Coltons Point, Maryland, the St. Clement's Island State Park has a ton of wonderful things to offer all of its visitors. Many consider the island to be the "birthplace of Maryland." In the mid-1600s two ships, The Ark and The Dove, landed on the island and named it St. Clement after the patron saint of mariners. This was the beginning of the Maryland colony.
Today, visitors to the island can see and do a variety of things. One of the first things that guests to the island will want to see is the 40-foot memorial dedicated to those first colonists. Of course, the island has a lot more to offer to all of those who make the trip by water taxi for a visit.
Many people come to the 40-acre island for the scenery, as well as to have picnics with the family and see some of the local waterfowl. Hiking trails are also available and the natural beauty of the island, combined with the exhibits and memorial, make for some wonderful photographic opportunities.
Also located on the island is the St. Clement's Island Museum, which has many historical exhibits for people to see. The museum was founded in 1975. Visitors can take self-guided tours of the museum, or they can request a guided tour.
